Bootcamp the Hottest Trend in Fitness

January 4th, 2010

Fitness bootcamps look to be the hottest trend going in the fitness industry today, especially in light of the current economic climate. With the financial angst that many are experiencing, finding a more cost effective way to achieve and maintain fitness levels is a major priority. It’s a good time to be in the personal trainer certification business.

If there was ever a win-win scenario for fitness enthusiasts the group-training model is it. For only a fraction of the cost of typical one-on-one rates bootcamp participants are able to access personal training support in a unique and dynamic team environment. Not only does this exercise context provide better social support and accountability, it helps people reach their fitness goals affordably.

The financial upside to group training and bootcamp style workouts is certainly not the only reason to consider this fitness option. In terms of our other most-coveted resource, time, the efficiency of a bootcamp fitness program make it a more schedule-friendly approach to getting fit. In an article describing some of the hows and whys of bootcamp training, Paige Waehner makes this point: “Boot camp workouts are efficient because you work your entire body– heart and muscles–by going from one exercise to another with no rest.” By eliminating down time and the need to swap out equipment, machines, weights, etc this workout method can be streamlined to get the job done quickly as well as intensely.

Bootcamp workouts are kinder on the pocketbook and easier to squeeze into a busy schedule. One more significant advantage to this method of reaching fitness goals is that it can be a lot of fun. Do not underestimate the power of fun and enjoyment when it comes to maintaining a fitness routine. The number one killer of exercise plans, routines, and resolutions is the lack of accountability and motivation. When you workout in a non-competitive and supportive environment the likelihood of sticking with the routine to point of reaching goals and maintaining fitness levels is certainly higher than without.

Perhaps fitness boot camp will become a required component of personal training certification in the near future.
